R 1200 S :
Introduction in November at the EICMA in Milan (!!), together with the new twin F 800 S.
BMW’s goal ; 25 kilo’s less, and 25 HP more (BMW engineers saw already 130 HP on the works dyno)
Maybe the same base engine as the HP2, this engine revs easier, and is less heavy than the R 1200 RT/ST unit.
Maybe already on the R 1200 S, BMW’s new brake “ABS-brake-assistant” system, instead of today’s, not trouble free, Integral ABS system (this new brake system will definitely show up in 2006)
The word is that there won’t be hard bags available for the R 1200 S, and the seating position is far more sportier than on the R 1100 S. BMW new logic : if you want a sport-touring bike, than grab the R 1200 ST, the new R 1200 S offers us the position of a true sport-bike. No compromises anymore.
In Germany, prices will start approximately at 13.500 Euro’s (at this moment the “old” R 1100 S costs 11.500 Euro’s, the R 1200 ST over there costs 12.500 Euro, and a K 1200 R starts at 13 big-ones)
Because we have this “luxury tax” on cars and bikes (called BPM) in Holland, prices in our little country will be even higher…(starting price in Holland for a R 1100 S : almost 14.000 Euro…, considering that ; the R 1200 S is probably going to get a starting price (in Holland) of aprox 16.500 Euro…, even more than a K 1200 R…)
